| A letter
to Kevin Dooley and his response Dear
DC, I'm a big Hal Jordan/Green Lantern
fan and just wanted to say it has really been great seeing/reading about him again
these past few months. I just came across some info that shocked me; "Green
Lantern #100 proved so popular that it is going to see a second printing. " Now
we all know why it was so popular- Hal Jordan! This would be a very good hint
that we fans want Hal Jordan back for good. Please pass to Kevin Dooley and tell
him there are LOTS of Hal Jordan fans that feelsame way and want Hal back for
good. In comics, there is always a way.... Thanks
for hearing me out... James Miller PS
As soon as the run of Hal ends with #106, I'm afraid I'll quit buying GL again...
Kevin Sez: Dear
James, A shame, cuz
you'll be missing a lot of great GL stories. We think GL #100 was
such a hit because of Hal AND Kyle and the surprise of bringing Hal back.
We prefer keeping him as an infrequent guest, like they did with Alan Scott back
in the '50s and '60s. It's now Kyle's time to shine. Thanks
for writing. A GL (Hal and Kyle
and all of 'em) fan -KDooley DCOKDooley@aol.com Editor's
note: Funny how they didn't have to kill off Alan Scott back in 1959 to allow
Hal to be a Green Lantern...
Explaining #101 Dear
Sir (sorry I don't know your name), In
response to your synopsis on issue 101 of GL, I would like to say that I disagree
about what you said about that issue. 1)
Hal destroying the statue. I personally think that I would have done the same
thing if I had seen a statue of myself that marked a gravestone. Think about it.
If you had just been told that you turned into some kind of...devil (Thanks Hal)
and that you were now dead I'd act the same way. It's the shock of a life! If
you had done what was right for ever and ever and then you were told that you'd
go bad and try to take over the universe and then die, heck, I'd be shocked, wouldn't
you? Which leads to the second point... 2)
I think that DC made a big deal about the bus scene because they DIDN'T do that
in GL #48 (?). Hal wasn't able to be reminded of what it meant to BE a hero. It
meant that you were able to save ONE life and that's all that matters. Right?
Hal didn't figure it out in #48 so DC gave him another chance to realize that.
Now why Hal didn't do what you suggested in the review is a very viable point.
However, DC probably wanted to emphasize what it meant to be a hero. To save only
1, or in this case 4, life's and to be praised for it. I think that is why DC
and Ron Martz didn't have Hal pick the bus up. 3)
How Hal is charging his ring up? I have no clue, but I bet it's something that
DC wants us to forget about and just enjoy Hal's return. You're
probably right about Hal going back without knowledge about what happened (they
always seem to do that don't they). But DC DID mention about a new monthly series
going on in '98 and the creative team is NOT the ones who are doing J'Jonzz series,
nor is it the Young Justice team either. So here's to hopin' huh? Before
I end this e-mail I was wondering who you think would play a good Hal Jordan in
a Green Lantern movie. I'm personally putting in my vote for Harrison Ford but
that's just me. Tell me what you think and thanks for your time and your homepage. Sincerely, Taylor
Millard (Webeditor: My money is on
Tom Cruise for Hal, but an unknown is probably more likely as the big stars want
to stay away from the comic book hero roles now, especially after Batman and Robin!)
Parallax to powerful? Dear
Hal Jordan Fan I just wanted to say that
you are doing a great job of keeping the name of the only GL I know alive. I have
this comment on why DC is resentful to the idea of returning Hal to the mainstream.
The problem with all characters in comics was this, who can create a character
with powers exceeds that of Superman (the strongest in comics history), by a mistake,
Mr. Ron Marz, have managed to create the strongest Character of all, Parallax,
and the strength of this character was consolidated by the events of Zero Hour
and Final night. So how can you ask DC to recreate the strongest character in
comics? there is no way. Besides, I really do like Hal Jordan as Parallax. If
he returned, who will need the JLA?. Keep
up the good work, Idris El-Mahdi, Dublin,
Ireland. P.S. I'm one of the people who
signed the GLC petition, and keeps sending emails to DC since the start of the
Emerald Knight storyline. Part
II Hi, and thanks for the reply. It goes
without a reminder, we are dropping the GL title after #106. The thing is, all
the people I met at the local comic stores will be doing the same. I just hope
DC will take a notice. I have checked the top 100 chart published in July Reviews,
and the GL title was way higher than Superman or Batman. Even G Arrow received
a push from Hal's appearance. Any way,
it was good to see Hal in the original costume again, and really enjoyed his role
in JLA year one, and in JLA: The Nail. Keep
up the good work, Idris El-Mahdi, Dublin,
Ireland. Sound
Theory First off, congrats on a great
website!! You have done justice to Hal! I
have to agree with Steve's letter (see below), the younger Hal is Parallax. No
doubt about it!!! What a great way for Hal to become accepted again. And as I
recall for "Zero Hour", Hal DID lose the gray hair. He's doing it again.
Perhaps in destroying the Sun Eater, Hal lost his memory and he may not be aware
of his own identify. Time will tell. Whatever happens, I sure hope DC doesn't
come up with the lame "send young Hal back in time to restore everything"
end for what has been a great story (as well as great artwork) so far. George
Conigilo Thoughts
on Green Lantern I have the same feeling
about comic books as you do. I had stopped reading them for four years and just
yesterday re-opened my comic book collection and started reading once more. I
really don't remember why I stopped buying them. Maybe it was because I thought
comic books were for kids, but the truth is they are for anyone who can cherish
them. As I flipped through the pages of each comic book I got that great feeling
I use to get when I read them, that magical imagination one has during childhood,
but I still feel adults relate more to situations in the stories, as explained
in your web page. I plan to continue my 150 comic book collection. Picking
a favorite hero is tough, I always loved Spiderman comics, which had great adventures,
but with out a doubt, my favorite hero is and always will be Hal Jordan, the silver
age Green Lantern (in my opinion the Golden Age). My first comic was a 1990 issue
of Green Lantern and I loved this hero, an emotionally tortured man faced with
every day problems and experiencing a mid life crisis. He was a very human hero
and the at the same time the greatest Green Lantern bearer. When they made him
insane mad man that destroyed the GL corps, it really angered me. I have a few
of the Kyle Rainer comics and they are all right, but they will never replace
my favorite. The writers later made him Parallax or something and made him the
villain who caused Zero Hour. Then when he tries to become good once more and
is offered a new ring by Gaunthlet, the last guardian, he denies it and sacrifices
himself to save the world. I guess they wanted to revive sales by constructing
such a tragic end to his life. There
is good news, as you already now. Hal Jordan is returning as a younger version
of himself. I don't know if they will have him as a guest appearance and then
return him to the past, or if he will stay permanently. Personally I liked the
old experienced Hal Jordan, but anything will do to bring him back. Anyway if
you have any more info not on your page please mail me, and if not mail me anyway
and speak of your favorite characters. Sincerely, Giancarlo
Isaias P.S: I forgot to tell u I'm 17
and from the Dominican Republic. Excuse any spelling and grammatically errors,
since I've written this in a rush.
Parallax Hey, Just
a quick note for you on my take on Hal returning I think it's Parallax....Hal's
Comment about the world being more violent and such at the end of #102 and that
he was "needed" re-read that and see if you can see what I am getting
at. Here is my reasoning.... Hal wanted
the GL ring back after he became Parallax but soon realized that he would never
again be accepted as GL. So what if he arranged it so that he could be GL again
without the Parallax 'tag' Even though he often claimed he didn't want to be GL
again I never believed this. What with Parallax being able to manipulate time
he could have been the one who brought Kyle to the past and it's possible however
remote that this isn't GL....it's Parallax. Think about it one of the holes that
you pointed out could be a clue........ "First
off, how is Hal recharging his ring? He didn't bring a Lantern Battery with him,
nor does Kyle's work for his ring. So where is he getting the power?" Parallax
didn't need a battery, he had internal power........ Just
a thought... Steven PS

New Hal Jordan I
miss old Hal, but Green Lantern has never been more interesting than it is
now. Richard
& Katherine Yanes Hal's
Return My compliments on your website.
I think you're totally right about GL #101; the business with the school bus was
absolutely absurd, and in my opinion is representative of Ron Marz' generally
inadequate writing. I think that scene is possibly representative of what seems
to be the ultimate goal of the Emerald Knights shoreline: to denigrate the memory
of Hal Jordan even more. In none of the issues so far has Hal exhibited a great
deal of creativity wielding the ring, which, while totally uncharacteristic of
the original Hal, may be an attempt to make Kyle Rayner appear "flashier."
Marz also seems to be attempting some rather more extreme revisionism as well,
by attempting to plant the seeds of Jordan's absurd descent into insanity well
into GL's past. Take for instance Jordan's outburst in #101 that leads him to
destroy his future self's statue, or Batman's distrust of Jordan in #103. I
hope I'm wrong; perhaps the sales figures for Hal's return will convince DC to
bring him back permanently. But if I'm right, this revisionism is even more disgusting
and outrageous than the original Emerald Twilight storyline. Old-time readers
are going to be asked to accept that the hero we loved for decades not only snapped
when his home city was destroyed, but was in fact a borderline psychotic his entire
life. I don't know why Marz and
Dooley seem to have such a dislike for Hal Jordan.
Perhaps they feel defensive about the backlash they've received and feel the need
to lash back, albeit in a rather crude and cruel manner. It seems obvious now
that Hal Jordan was, is, and always be the one, true Green Lantern. One can only
hope Marz and Dooley come to their senses or are replaced. Lein
Shory Parallax
web page GREAT JOB! I
just visited your Parallax web page ... and I loved it! I
believe it is one of (if not THE BEST) web site I have seen. Thank you for all
the time that you put in on it, for us true GREEN LANTERN fans it is an inspiration.
I have one request .. could you e-mail me a photo of the finished version of your
Parallax it didn't down load for some reason and where did you get the package
that you put him in that is cool. thanks again . a
fan and friend James Meredith
A New Fan Says Hi! Just
found your website. Hal Jordan is my favorite DC character. I wish they would
have a regular monthly Parallax comic. what can us fans do to help. anytime you
want to "talk Jordan" I'll respond.. Bill
Earl Pico Rivera, CA Wow! Just
wanted to drop a line to say "Great Work!" You are truly talented and
your site is about the sharpest I have seen. In

The Greatest!!! First,
I would like to thank you for setting up the Parallax page. Second,
I didn't think anyone was so crazy about Hal Jordan as I was! I also have the
ring, three of the posters, (One framed nicely on the wall), the statue, the pin,
much of the entire collection of green lantern comics, 6 issues of issues 50,
63 and 64, 82, parallax special, and the new 'return'. I also have the Parallax
figure, and the original Kenner Hal Jordan green lantern, except I cant find the
lantern, and I also have a die-cast metal figure of him that I put on the dashboard
of my bronco, including that section of ACW when he is fighting Lord Malvolio.
I have the segment where Hal says, "I'm just ticked" Everyone thinks
its cool, although they think I am a little carried away with the whole thing.
I guess the real reason I have always liked the character is because he reminds
me of me. Many things that have happened to him, occur to some people in real
life. He was easily understood, and the whole issue of will power helps me accomplish
things in real life. In short, Hal Jordan is my hero. I am glad there are others
out there who feel the same way I do. My hockey team is even called Parallax and
we won the championship!!! We are also designing the lantern logo on hockey jerseys. The
old one of course, or should I say, the real one. I don't think Kyle is all that
bad, I just felt it was unnecessary to do what they did. Well, write back to me
when you get a chance. "In Brightest
day, In Blackest night.......... Nick
