Here are some Letters to the webeditor (Me!)   Got some comments?  Send them in and I may print them!

Thanks for the website!

To webeditor of Emeralddawn.com-

Thanks for the website! I stopped collecting Green Lantern after 20 plus years. Granted, I love the character in all forms from Hal Jordan to Kyle Rayner, but I thought after the Day of Judgment series, it was a good jumping off point to stop. I just follow GL's exploits by logging on the the DC comics website, then read a synopsis of what they are doing to the character storylines, and that's enough for me. However, I have this site bookmarked to follow the character of the one and only true Green Lantern...Hal Jordan.
Thanks for a well updated and informative website that not only respects the character of Green Lantern/Hal Jordan, but enshrines the character as well.
Good job! I' m looking forward to the NEW FRONTIER series which proves again to hard core Green Lantern fans that DC still respects the Hal Jordan character and he is still a viable member of the DC Universe.

Thanks Rodney for the kind words. With Alan Scott getting his name back as Green Lantern, can Hal be far behind? Keep checking in for news.... -JM

Wow! Great Site!

I worked in marketing management for a web site building company. And I am a big comic books fan. Green Lantern is one of my elite favorite characters.

Based on the previously mentioned factors I give the web site: www.emeralddawn.com the humble opinion/title of:
THE BEST PROFFESSIONAL WEB SITE I'VE SEEN!

It is simple, easy to use, whoever is working on it knows what he is doing (assuming it is a he), he loves the character he dedicated this web site to, and the information in this web site is almost, if not completly, PERFECT.

I thank the stars for me deciding to visit your web site, which I am going to do it on frequent basis. And I am thankful for you and the lesson you show of loving a character through your work.

Thanks ESS-EL, this site is a labor of love for me. Your comments are very well received, since recently, I lost my job. If only an employer out there would recognize my talents... -JM

Keep up the good work!

I have my own Green Lantern website at:
www.hometown.aol.com/fendermaniac89/glpage.html and I was planning to make the best Green Lantern website ever! I wanted to make a website because all of the other Green Lantern websites I've been to aren't that good at all.

Some of them just have links on them. I wanted to make mine better than
anybody's. Then I put all of the Green Lantern information I knew on it and
I'm still puting more stuff on there everyday! I thought my website was
great. I thought it was pretty good until I saw yours. Your website is the
best Green Lantern website I've ever seen! It has some stuff on it that DC's
website doesn't even have! I also can't beleive some of the stuff you have on the Mall of Oa. It's the best Green Lantern merchendise I've ever seen! Your website makes mine look like nothing! This website has more information than I'll probably ever know on Green Lantern! Keep up the good work!

Sincerly,
Stephanie Donnelly
p.s. try to check out my website!

Well, thanks for the very kind words Stephanie, I'll be happy to visit your site as well as add your GL site to my links section! -JM

Satisfied Customer

I have a company that made websites (www.intermagen.net) and I'm a great Green Lantern fan, and I was planning to make the ultimate website of Green Lantern. (I even spoke with the DC guys to ask for permission), because I was tired of all the non-professional websites of Green Lantern with lack of information and design.

So, when I decided to do the website, I found your website, and I was really happy that finally someone made what I really want (a professional website, great design, professional hosting and even a mall of gl products with items I didn't even knew existed).

Then a question arrived to my head: Is James Miller a person I can trust to
buy online?

Because I had some bad experiences buying online before... So I decided to buy something small (the zero hour video and the green lantern video of the superman animated 1999) to see what happen. Today, I received the videos and I am more than satisfied!

So, I am writing to tell you THANK YOU for your website, THANK YOU for you being a person that I can trust and THANK YOU for the excellent service you have!

So now I want to buy a new Green Lantern item (Green Lantern model kit from Japan) but I have a question: Is this product going to be offer in the
previews magazine sometime, or you found it in Japan as an exclusive item?

By the way, and now that I'm not going to do the Green Lantern website, I did make another website exclusively for people who speak spanish and collect comics in english (www.h4ecomics.com) check it out, maybe someday we can make a business with another website, because our labor costs are unexpensive

Well THANKS again, I will wait for the answer of the statue...

keep in touch

Sincerely

Making a Difference
I just wanted to thank you for your website.  I am a 35 year old long time Hal fan and had pretty much given up my life long comics hobby after the events of "Emerald Twilight" and realizing that Hal wasn't going to return.  I resigned myself to reading back issues.  About a year or so ago I came across your site via the GL Corps site.  Needless to say you reignited my interests in seeing Hal returned to current continuity and joining HEAT.  Until recently I have pretty much been a non-participant on the message boards, but the way in which you present yourself and deal with all the garbage associated with being an online presence also made me realize that no one will change things if we all don't get involved.  So I'm shining up my tarnished ring and getting into the fray.

So thanks for everything - see you around cyberspace!

A fellow lantern fan,

Words From A Green Arrow Fan
Great Website!!! I really think this is one of the best sites on the internet for comic fans.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but in DAY OF JUDGEMENT, it was stated only those who forgive Hal Jordan wouldn't recognize him.

It was pointed out by a poster on the DC Bulletin Boards by the screen name, He Who Is, Batman doesn't forgive him, while most others do. As the poster pointed out, wouldn't that make Batman able to recognize that Hal was the Spectre, while others wouldn't, even though the JLA tie in to DOJ Batman didn't?

I agree with his thoughts and was under the same impression that Batman would be able to recognize Hal because, it appears in his heart, he hadn't forgiven him.

Likewise, I actually hope that there is some sort of conflict between Hal and Ollie after both Ollie and Hal return to the DCU in a full time monthly "present" continuity later this year in each of their books.

The last page of GREEN ARROW #101 shows Ollie in his equivalent of "Sherwood Forest" Heaven. He was essentially ripped away from that and brought back here by Hal, it seems in GREEN ARROW #137, though we don't know what happened afterwards and where Ollie has been in hiding.

The last several experiences that Ollie had with Hal Jordan: (a ) being taken into the desert where he placed Ollie into his Neal Adams outfit and wants to bring back the good old days, (b) informed Ollie that Connor is his son that catches him off guard, (c) seeing that Hal became the crazed Parallax, (d) caused Zero Hour to change all reality in which Ollie had to kill him with an arrow to the heart or so he thought, (e) Oliver was taken from paradise, and (f) Ollie may have find out that Hal has become the Spectre Wrath Vengeance of God.

This may cause Ollie some anger, some reservation, some confusion, some feelings to sort out, and some issues that may not allow him to forgive Hal for old time's sake.

I hope that both the editorial teams and writers of THE SPECTRE and GREEN ARROW recognizes that it could open the avenue for a great story arc in which Ollie hasn't forgiven him for bringing him back. Also, Ollie may still hold some anger towards Hal at his other apparently villainous transgressions against him and the galaxy since Zero Hour and Emerald Twilight.

It would make an interesting story arc seeing two best friends who have returned from the dead re-evaluating life and it's worth. It would be interesting to see them discussing spiritual issues, their relationship, and their second chance. The conflicts and such could be priceless with these two together again in a story arc.

The resolution of this story arc could be whether Ollie forgives Hal and make their piece, therefore, Oliver possibly losing recognition of his friend again or whether he remains angry, unforgiving, so the two could battle over words and ideals forever. For story sake, I hope there is enough character driven confrontation that would allow Ollie to be one of the few to recognize Hal as the Spectre. Even if it is a universal loophole that the dead can see the dead, then I think it is essential that they would be able to recognize each other to continue their hard travelling journey begun years ago.

Just seeing that this angle has potential and wanted to share my opinion before both series launch. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Scott McCullar

A young angry Hal Jordan fan writes:

First I would like to comment on how great your site is, I have been around the web and this is defiantly one of the BEST sites there is.

Now, I don't remember why I started to read comic books, but last year I started to get interested in comics and started to buy them.  I had always known of Superman and Batman and the other well known heroes, but Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) really caught my interest more than any of the others when I
became interested in comics.  His history and his legendary status in the DC Universe drew me into the world of Comics.  Now this was Hal Jordan, not Kyle Rayner, who I could care less about.  I didn't know that Hal had been killed off and been replaced by this kid, so I was really mad, especially at the way they ruined him and eventually killed him off.  DC said
that Hal was too old and they needed a new character who kids now-a-days can relate to, well I'm a teen from now-a-days, and I don't like Kyle at all.

When I eventually found out that Hal Jordan had been killed off, I was really mad.  I have been buying old GL comics, so that I can get to know the Hal Jordan character better, and with every comic I read, the more I like him and everything he stands for.  Those guys at DC had to be fools to do away with
Hal and replace him with somebody who has no appeal to him.  At least those people eventually realized what a great character Hal is and decided to bring him back, but I would prefer to see him back at his rightful place of Green
Lantern.

Well keep up the good work and great job.

PS:  Have you  thought about putting Fan Fiction in you site?

Note from a long time Hal Jordan fan

Greetings,

I was looking through some Star Fleet Command links and just happened to find this site.  Wow, I didn't realize that there are still a great deal of Hal Jordan fans out there.

GL 133 - 135 with Dr Polaris were the first three comics I ever bought.  The grit and toughness Hal showed as well as the excellent writing during those three episodes hooked me on Hal and comics.  I have every GL comic since then until the conclusion of Emerald Knights.  I have not collected a single comic since.

If Hal does in fact become the Spectre, I will have to reconsider my decision not to buy DC anymore.  A company needs to show some loyalty to its customers, and the three episode destruction of years of tradition for Hal and Corps does not fit the bill in my book.

Thanks for a great site...I have it bookmarked now.

Thoughts on Hal Jordan

Hello,

Just thought I'd drop you a line letting you how much I enjoy your website.
I'm glad to see that there are others out there who care about the Hal Jordan character as much as I do.  I also e-mailed Mr. Dooley and told him I was dropping Green Lantern even though I have every issue.  I'm really tired of Kyle Rayner and the direction the comic is going.  Without Hal it's just not the same.  He e-mailed me back with his typical response, "You'll be missing some great Green Lantern stories."

Thanks to the "brains" at DC my passion for comics is fading.  I don't want to read Hal Jordan stories in the past tense.  He should be alive and well in the present continuity of the DC universe.

I wonder how Superman fans would feel if there was no longer a Clark Kent or how Batman fans would feel if there was no Bruce Wayne.  Pretty pissed I imagine.

Thanks for listening,
Sonny

A letter to Kevin Dooley and his response

Dear DC,

I'm a big Hal Jordan/Green Lantern fan and just wanted to say it has really been great seeing/reading about him again these past few months. I just came across some info that shocked me; "Green Lantern #100 proved so popular that it is going to see a second printing. "

Now we all know why it was so popular- Hal Jordan! This would be a very good hint that we fans want Hal Jordan back for good. Please pass to Kevin Dooley and tell him there are LOTS of Hal Jordan fans that feelsame way and want Hal back for good. In comics, there is always a way....

Thanks for hearing me out...

James Miller

PS As soon as the run of Hal ends with #106, I'm afraid I'll quit buying GL again...

Kevin Sez:

Dear James,

A shame, cuz you'll be missing a lot of great GL stories. We think GL #100 was such a hit because of Hal AND Kyle and the surprise of bringing Hal back. We prefer keeping him as an infrequent guest, like they did with Alan Scott back in the '50s and '60s. It's now Kyle's time to shine.

Thanks for writing.

A GL (Hal and Kyle and all of 'em) fan

DCOKDooley@aol.com

Editor's note: Funny how they didn't have to kill off Alan Scott back in 1959 to allow Hal to be a Green Lantern...

Explaining #101

Dear Sir (sorry I don't know your name),

In response to your synopsis on issue 101 of GL, I would like to say that I disagree about what you said about that issue.

1) Hal destroying the statue. I personally think that I would have done the same thing if I had seen a statue of myself that marked a gravestone. Think about it. If you had just been told that you turned into some kind of...devil (Thanks Hal) and that you were now dead I'd act the same way. It's the shock of a life! If you had done what was right for ever and ever and then you were told that you'd go bad and try to take over the universe and then die, heck, I'd be shocked, wouldn't you? Which leads to the second point...

2) I think that DC made a big deal about the bus scene because they DIDN'T do that in GL #48 (?). Hal wasn't able to be reminded of what it meant to BE a hero. It meant that you were able to save ONE life and that's all that matters. Right? Hal didn't figure it out in #48 so DC gave him another chance to realize that. Now why Hal didn't do what you suggested in the review is a very viable point. However, DC probably wanted to emphasize what it meant to be a hero. To save only 1, or in this case 4, life's and to be praised for it. I think that is why DC and Ron Martz didn't have Hal pick the bus up.

3) How Hal is charging his ring up? I have no clue, but I bet it's something that DC wants us to forget about and just enjoy Hal's return.

You're probably right about Hal going back without knowledge about what happened (they always seem to do that don't they). But DC DID mention about a new monthly series going on in '98 and the creative team is NOT the ones who are doing J'Jonzz series, nor is it the Young Justice team either. So here's to hopin' huh?

Before I end this e-mail I was wondering who you think would play a good Hal Jordan in a Green Lantern movie. I'm personally putting in my vote for Harrison Ford but that's just me. Tell me what you think and thanks for your time and your homepage.

Sincerely,

Taylor Millard

(Webeditor: My money is on Tom Cruise for Hal, but an unknown is probably more likely as the big stars want to stay away from the comic book hero roles now, especially after Batman and Robin!)

Parallax to powerful?

Dear Hal Jordan Fan

I just wanted to say that you are doing a great job of keeping the name of the only GL I know alive. I have this comment on why DC is resentful to the idea of returning Hal to the mainstream. The problem with all characters in comics was this, who can create a character with powers exceeds that of Superman (the strongest in comics history), by a mistake, Mr. Ron Marz, have managed to create the strongest Character of all, Parallax, and the strength of this character was consolidated by the events of Zero Hour and Final night. So how can you ask DC to recreate the strongest character in comics? there is no way. Besides, I really do like Hal Jordan as Parallax. If he returned, who will need the JLA?.

Keep up the good work,

Idris El-Mahdi, Dublin, Ireland.

P.S. I'm one of the people who signed the GLC petition, and keeps sending emails to DC since the start of the Emerald Knight storyline.

Part II

Hi, and thanks for the reply. It goes without a reminder, we are dropping the GL title after #106. The thing is, all the people I met at the local comic stores will be doing the same. I just hope DC will take a notice. I have checked the top 100 chart published in July Reviews, and the GL title was way higher than Superman or Batman. Even G Arrow received a push from Hal's appearance.

Any way, it was good to see Hal in the original costume again, and really enjoyed his role in JLA year one, and in JLA: The Nail.

Keep up the good work,

Idris El-Mahdi, Dublin, Ireland.

Sound Theory

First off, congrats on a great website!! You have done justice to Hal!

I have to agree with Steve's letter (see below), the younger Hal is Parallax. No doubt about it!!! What a great way for Hal to become accepted again. And as I recall for "Zero Hour", Hal DID lose the gray hair. He's doing it again. Perhaps in destroying the Sun Eater, Hal lost his memory and he may not be aware of his own identify. Time will tell. Whatever happens, I sure hope DC doesn't come up with the lame "send young Hal back in time to restore everything" end for what has been a great story (as well as great artwork) so far.

Thoughts on Green Lantern

I have the same feeling about comic books as you do. I had stopped reading them for four years and just yesterday re-opened my comic book collection and started reading once more. I really don't remember why I stopped buying them. Maybe it was because I thought comic books were for kids, but the truth is they are for anyone who can cherish them. As I flipped through the pages of each comic book I got that great feeling I use to get when I read them, that magical imagination one has during childhood, but I still feel adults relate more to situations in the stories, as explained in your web page. I plan to continue my 150 comic book collection.

Picking a favorite hero is tough, I always loved Spiderman comics, which had great adventures, but with out a doubt, my favorite hero is and always will be Hal Jordan, the silver age Green Lantern (in my opinion the Golden Age). My first comic was a 1990 issue of Green Lantern and I loved this hero, an emotionally tortured man faced with every day problems and experiencing a mid life crisis. He was a very human hero and the at the same time the greatest Green Lantern bearer. When they made him insane mad man that destroyed the GL corps, it really angered me. I have a few of the Kyle Rainer comics and they are all right, but they will never replace my favorite. The writers later made him Parallax or something and made him the villain who caused Zero Hour. Then when he tries to become good once more and is offered a new ring by Gaunthlet, the last guardian, he denies it and sacrifices himself to save the world. I guess they wanted to revive sales by constructing such a tragic end to his life.

There is good news, as you already now. Hal Jordan is returning as a younger version of himself. I don't know if they will have him as a guest appearance and then return him to the past, or if he will stay permanently. Personally I liked the old experienced Hal Jordan, but anything will do to bring him back. Anyway if you have any more info not on your page please mail me, and if not mail me anyway and speak of your favorite characters.

Sincerely,

Giancarlo Isaias

P.S: I forgot to tell u I'm 17 and from the Dominican Republic. Excuse any spelling and grammatically errors, since I've written this in a rush.

Parallax

Hey,

Just a quick note for you on my take on Hal returning I think it's Parallax....Hal's Comment about the world being more violent and such at the end of #102 and that he was "needed" re-read that and see if you can see what I am getting at. Here is my reasoning....

Hal wanted the GL ring back after he became Parallax but soon realized that he would never again be accepted as GL. So what if he arranged it so that he could be GL again without the Parallax 'tag' Even though he often claimed he didn't want to be GL again I never believed this. What with Parallax being able to manipulate time he could have been the one who brought Kyle to the past and it's possible however remote that this isn't GL....it's Parallax. Think about it one of the holes that you pointed out could be a clue........

"First off, how is Hal recharging his ring? He didn't bring a Lantern Battery with him, nor does Kyle's work for his ring. So where is he getting the power?"

Parallax didn't need a battery, he had internal power........

Just a thought...

Steven

PS If you are interested my GL movie is online at www.iinet.net.au/~aconroy/gl.zip

New Hal Jordan

I miss old Hal, but Green Lantern has never been more interesting than it is now.

Hal's Return

My compliments on your website. I think you're totally right about GL #101; the business with the school bus was absolutely absurd, and in my opinion is representative of Ron Marz' generally inadequate writing. I think that scene is possibly representative of what seems to be the ultimate goal of the Emerald Knights shoreline: to denigrate the memory of Hal Jordan even more. In none of the issues so far has Hal exhibited a great deal of creativity wielding the ring, which, while totally uncharacteristic of the original Hal, may be an attempt to make Kyle Rayner appear "flashier." Marz also seems to be attempting some rather more extreme revisionism as well, by attempting to plant the seeds of Jordan's absurd descent into insanity well into GL's past. Take for instance Jordan's outburst in #101 that leads him to destroy his future self's statue, or Batman's distrust of Jordan in #103.

I hope I'm wrong; perhaps the sales figures for Hal's return will convince DC to bring him back permanently. But if I'm right, this revisionism is even more disgusting and outrageous than the original Emerald Twilight storyline. Old-time readers are going to be asked to accept that the hero we loved for decades not only snapped when his home city was destroyed, but was in fact a borderline psychotic his entire life.

I don't know why Marz and Dooley seem to have such a dislike for Hal Jordan. Perhaps they feel defensive about the backlash they've received and feel the need to lash back, albeit in a rather crude and cruel manner. It seems obvious now that Hal Jordan was, is, and always be the one, true Green Lantern. One can only hope Marz and Dooley come to their senses or are replaced.

The Greatest!!!

First, I would like to thank you for setting up the Parallax page.

Second, I didn't think anyone was so crazy about Hal Jordan as I was! I also have the ring, three of the posters, (One framed nicely on the wall), the statue, the pin, much of the entire collection of green lantern comics, 6 issues of issues 50, 63 and 64, 82, parallax special, and the new 'return'. I also have the Parallax figure, and the original Kenner Hal Jordan green lantern, except I cant find the lantern, and I also have a die-cast metal figure of him that I put on the dashboard of my bronco, including that section of ACW when he is fighting Lord Malvolio. I have the segment where Hal says, "I'm just ticked" Everyone thinks its cool, although they think I am a little carried away with the whole thing. I guess the real reason I have always liked the character is because he reminds me of me. Many things that have happened to him, occur to some people in real life. He was easily understood, and the whole issue of will power helps me accomplish things in real life. In short, Hal Jordan is my hero. I am glad there are others out there who feel the same way I do. My hockey team is even called Parallax and we won the championship!!! We are also designing the lantern logo on hockey jerseys.

The old one of course, or should I say, the real one. I don't think Kyle is all that bad, I just felt it was unnecessary to do what they did. Well, write back to me when you get a chance.

"In Brightest day,

In Blackest night..........
