"In
the Brightest Day..."
In
brightest day
In blackest night
No evil shall escape my sight
Let
those who worship evil's might
Beware my power
Green Lantern's light
wow
I
don't know about you, but those words really inspire me. They make me think of
honesty. They make me think of fearlessness. They make me think of a corps of
different beings from across the universe that came together to fight evil for
centuries upon centuries.
And
it wasn't just that they fought evil, but it was how. With rings that could do
anything, the only limit was the ring-bearer's will. That's amazing. A living
being's will power is the stongest force around. Be that living being from Slyggia,
Bolovax Vik, H'lven, Xudar, Oa, Korugar, or even...Earth.
The
man that has the strongest will of all Green Lanterns was from earth. His name
is Hal Jordan. He was truly without fear, and he was clever, intelligent, too.
Hal
fought alongside a man named Barry Allen, many call him The Flash. He also fought
alongside Oliver Queen, Green Arrow. His great friendship with these two was always
outstanding. And the villains he fought. Dr. Light, The Shark, Sonar, Major Disaster,
Star Sapphire, and especially, Sinestro. Some of those battles, I mean, wow. When
Sinestro trapped him in a cage that GL could never escape from, a seemingly impossible
trap. GL changed to Hal, and walked right out. Then, he bested Sinestro in a battle
of will! Or when he cut Star Sapphire off from the radiation that powered her
in their first battle. More recently, when he was physically outmatched by Guy
Gardner, yet he triumphed through the immense power of his will. Classic Stories.
All of them.
Hal
Jordan was honest, fearless, strong-willed, clever, and everything else that makes
a Green Lantern great. But he was not the only great GL. There was, of course,
Abin Sur, who gave Hal his ring. And Tomar Re, perhaps the most noble Green Lantern
of all. And Katma Tui, and Xax, and Chaselon, and so many others.
The
mighty Gaurdians of the Universe divided the universe into 3600 sectors. Each
sector had its own Green Lantern. Earth, in sector 2814, has featured such Green
Lanterns as Alan Scott (who led the way), Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Kyle
Rayner, along with Hal Jordan.
It
must have been amazing to be a part of it all.
Ah,
the Silver Age, John Broome and Gil Kane. Gardner Fox (spinning tales with Hal
in the J.L.A., including his classic team ups with Alan Scott). Denny O'Neill
and Neal Adams. Dick Giordano. Mike Grell. Marv Wolfman. So many great talents
brought Hal and the rest of the GLC to be such a great thing.
Will
Hal Jordan ever return? I don't know. I'd like to see it happen, but Kyle and
John seem to be doing a fine job. And Mogo's back. That means we have a corps,
be it ever so small. We have a corps. That's a start.
Even
if Hal never returns, we will always have these great stories. Hal vs Sinestro.
Hal aiding Ollie. Hal battling his love, Carol Ferris, as Star Sapphire.
Remember
Hal. Remember the Corps. Forever!
Green
Lantern. There is nothing else like Green Lantern in comics, we, as Green Lantern
fans know that. Green Lantern is something different, something special.
In
brightest day,
In blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight
Let
those who worship evil's might
Beware my power
GREEN
LANTERN'S LIGHT
